Honduras: His Eyes
Valerie and Felipe Colby work with His Eyes Honduras in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. They, along with their children, Cecilia and Soren, have made their home in Honduras answering God’s call to serve the people there.
Their hearts for ministry began when Valerie was in Optometry School and went to Honduras to do eye clinics for those in need. She immediately fell in love with the people and knew that God was moving her to a life of service for the Hondurans. She prayerfully returned to the States asking that if it was God’s will to move to Honduras, Felipe, her husband would feel the same way. The next year Felipe accompanied Valerie to Honduras, and was also drawn to the people. He recalls a moment of clarity when he heard a voice behind him urging him to move there. As he says, “I didn’t need to ask who's voice that was.” Shortly after returning to the states in 2001, Valerie graduated Optometry School, raised some support, and set off for Honduras in faith that God would supply the rest of their needs.
Look what God has done through their faithfulness! Valerie is now the director of His Eyes Clinic that provides affordable health care to thousands a year. Health care includes general medicine, dentistry, and optometry. The clinic offers a caring evaluation for the sick. Unlike most government healthcare facilities, it gives patients the medicines they need to recover and share the hope of Christ to solve their biggest problem.
Felipe runs all other operations for the ministry. He has helped administer the building of churches in four town throughout the country of Honduras. Other work managed by Felipe includes:
The Hill Climber Coffee Farm
The Milk Project - three days a week provides food and a lesson about Jesus to malnourished kids
The Clothing Ministry
Hosts 16 missions teams each year
Through everything they do, the Colby’s give honor and Glory to God. Without Him the ministry would not exist. It was God’s calling, and their obedience. God has big plans for their continued ministry!
